Objective: The objective of this UNICEF Lebanon consultancy was to build on a previous Back to School (BTS) initiative, and to contribute to further effective capacity building of partners (UNICEF and non-UNICEF front-line workers) involved in the 2017 – 2018 BTS initiative in order to achieve efficient and standardised outreach and community mobilisation.
Training was carried out in Arabic and English.
Outputs: To meet the project objectives, we successfully carried out the following:
- 8 Training of Trainers (TOT) on Back to School Outreach and community mobilisation: delivery of 8 TOT workshops to around 200 participants from UNICEF partner organisations including local and international NGOs, UN agency (s), and relevant ministries.
- 10 cascade trainings: supervision of 2 cascade trainings in each governorate for around 200 participants in total. This was carried out by a group of trained trainers who we mentored, supervised and supported to ensure cascades are of the highest quality.
- 1 training of hotline officers: delivery of training for 30 participants in Beirut to develop capacity for dealing with BTS complaints and feedback mechanism.
Development of a sensitisation package for teachers/directors of schools: to be used and shared by the UNICEF team to distribute to school directors and teachers to sensitise them on the importance of a healthy working environment, non-discrimination between children, promoting non-violence in school, etc. We continue to mentor and supervise the cascade trainings in Back to School outreach and community mobilisation skills that are taking place in a variety of locations around Lebanon and that will eventually reach around 200 beneficiaries. Our trainers are present during a sample of these trainings and continue to conduct feedback and support to ensure the trainings are of the highest quality.
Specific C4D Support inputs: We joined the project during the training phase of the second year of UNICEF Lebanon’s Back to School (BTS) initiative. Our roster of C4D Network Service Providers enabled us to successfully contract trainers, as well as to organise training venues, materials and logistics across various locations in Lebanon. This enabled us to not only meet an extremely short time-frame but also to achieve national scale-up.
